A Guy's Girl
Holy shit! Mia Mercado nails it as she satirically portrays a frighteningly accurate version of a “guy’s girl” – the ultimate fantasy girl-as-disposable-commodity. I wince when I recognize the self-proclaimed tomboy’s attempt to meet that fantasy, becoming a self-negating-woman-hater. After a lifetime of media having served us all a brand of female who is better than regular girls by not being real, this ideal holds contradicting, self-objectifying ideas so men don’t have to, being intentionally vapid while quick to out-smart potential feminist critique. In my attempt to find personal power as a young woman, I shared some of those thoughts, but I’m proud to have moved beyond a need to be “just chill like that.”
